Punctuation is a mark that makes a meaning of a sentence clear.
Another common punctuation mark is the question mark. A question mark (?) is
most often used at the end of a sentence. It is used when the statement is
asking for an answer or reply.
Question Mark
Most question marks come at the end of a sentence. They are used when the
statement is asking a question.
· What is your name?
· How old are you?
· Where do you live?
· Do you have a job?
Question Mark within a Sentence
Sometimes question marks can appear in the middle of a sentence. When quoting a
question (direct speech), question marks can be placed within the sentence.
Question marks are not used with indirect speech.
· Correct: "Who are you talking to?" she asked.
· Incorrect: She asked who I was talking to?
· Correct: "How are you doing?" Jane asked.
· Incorrect: Jane asked how I was doing?
· Correct: "What is your name?" asked the teacher.
· Incorrect: The teacher asked for my name?
